Qawwali-Grass: Two Traditions Together
Join us for an evening of collaboration between Chicago's Henhouse Prowlers (bluegrass) and Pakistan's Hamza Akram (traditional Qawwali music). The Henhouse Prowlers visited Pakistan in 2017 and connected with this incredible group, vowing to one day bring a collaborative show to the US. Hamza and his brothers come from a family that has passed music down through 26 generations (that's not a typo, folks. 800 years!) and their music is simultaneously complex and ethereal. The bands are filming a documentary with help from Shure Incorporated and it felt important to find a way to have a live performance open to the public. The show will start with a set of Qawwali music and culminate with a shared performance of both bands working together on each other’s music.
