Jazz and World Music Improv Workshop - All instruments welcome
Led by Steve Gibons
We’ll explore commonalities between East European Folk, Gypsy music, Gypsy Jazz, Flamenco and Middle Eastern music, using one or two modes. The workshop is structured to accommodate advanced and less advanced players simultaneously.
We will cover:
Modes: Introduce one or two modes for material for improvising
Style: Learn ornamentation that work over the styles
Rhythm: Learn accompaniment rhythms
Participants will learn modes, try ornamentations, experiment with characteristic motif and movements, and learn rhythmic patterns for accompaniment.
Then we’ll jam.
The players will play rhythmic accompaniments and each will try their hand at short improvs with positive coaching from Steve.
